Iuri Sarmento

The paintings of Iuri Sarmento are directly related to our
Portuguese visual heritage, which refer to recurring images that
occupy the right place in our cultural and affective memory.
The first impact in front of these works is the one of reunion, when
with something that belongs to us, that bases our identity and formation
national. In his work, Iuri practiced, almost
from the sensuality of colors and textures to a figuration that
own history of art, mixed with personal experiences.

His pop-baroque compositions exalt excess and saturation. However,
the juxtaposition of improbable colors, a multitude of textures and
different details – bright and opaque, stripes and balls, flowers and figures
geometric – forming a vocabulary of pictorial effects.
